WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) voted for H. Con. Res. 40, a War Powers Resolution that would direct President Trump to remove United States Armed Forces from Iran and end all hostilities. The vote failed to pass the House of Representatives by 213 to 214. Congresswoman Simon released the following statement after the vote:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Vice Chair of the Equality Caucus Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) joined Representatives Angie Craig (MN-02), Danny Davis (IL-07), Gwen Moore (WI-04), and Judy Chu (CA-28) led 23 House Democrats in a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. expressing alarm at the Department’s rescission of a rule that ensures LGBTQ+ foster youth have access to safe and affirming placements. The members demanded that Secretary Kennedy, Jr. put forth an alternative rule that ensures the safety of LGBTQ+ youth.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Vice Chair of the Equality Caucus Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) joined Chair of the Equality Caucus Congressman Mark Takano (D-CA-41) and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) to introduce the “Day of Silence” resolution. This resolution calls for equal education opportunities, basic civil rights protections, and freedom from erasure for all students, particularly LGBTQ+ young people in K-12 schools.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) joined Congressman Greg Casar (D-TX-35) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in introducing the Home Team Act, which would require owners of professional sports teams to give local communities the chance to buy teams before relocating them. In recent years, Oakland has watched its beloved sports teams leave one after another, leaving a gap in the city’s community identity and economy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) announced her new legislation, the Same-Day Paratransit Innovation Act. This legislation would incentivize the use of same-day paratransit technology at public transit agencies to allow for more flexible, on-demand paratransit services for individuals with disabilities and other paratransit users who cannot use fixed-route public transit.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (CA-12) joined Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14), as well as Reps. Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Kevin Mullin (CA-15), and Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff to demand urgent answers from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State following the deportation of a Hayward mother and her two young children, including her deaf, six-year-old son, Joseph, who was removed from the country without his assistive hearing devices.

OAKLAND, CA – Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) recently secured a $1,092,000 Community Project Funding (CPF) Grant for the East Bay Regional Park District to improve the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline. This federal funding will help enhance water quality in the San Leandro and San Francisco Bays and improve community access to the shoreline. Last Friday, she toured the project site and discussed the planned improvements.

OAKLAND, CA. – Today, Bay Area members of Congress celebrated an $8,807,888 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support local public transportation as the region prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The investment will ensure local transit agencies can meet increased demand during one of the largest global sporting events ever hosted in the United States.
