Congresswoman Simon's office hosts internships in both of our offices (Washington D.C. or Oakland).
Prospective legislative Intern applicants for the Washington, D.C. office and prospective district office intern applicants are required to fill out the below form and should have their cover letter and resume ready to upload at the end of the form (submitting these documents is required). Prospective press interns for the Washington D.C. office should email their application materials and digital portfolio to lateefahsimonpress@mail.house.gov, following the instructions below.

Washington, D.C. Internships (Press and Legislative)
Legislative Internship
Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (CA-12) seeks paid part-time interns for her Washington, D.C. office for the Summer 2026 semester.
Ideal candidates are organized and passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with an interest in public service and social justice. Applicants should be self-starters with excellent communication, writing and organizational skills.
Key responsibilities of D.C. interns include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with front office operations
- Conducting Capitol Tours
- Answering phones, recording constituent opinions, and processing other incoming requests
- Supporting the legislative team by drafting memos and conducting legislative research or community outreach
- Attending briefings and congressional hearings
- Performing other duties as assigned

Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as applicants will be considered on a rolling basis. The internship will take place in-person during the Summer and is paid. Press / Communications Internship
The Office of Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (CA-12) seeks a paid and highly motivated Communications Intern for Summer 2026 (June-July) based in the Washington, D.C. office.
The Communications Intern works closely with the Communications Team to support a robust press and digital operation. Ideal candidates are organized and passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with an interest in public service and social justice. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and should have excellent writing and organizational skills and a keen attention to detail. Applicants should have graphic design and video editing skills.
Primary educational opportunities and responsibilities will include:
- Drafting engaging and creative social media content and graphics highlighting Member’s work;
- Clipping committee remarks and press (cable, radio, other media) hits;
- Compiling daily news clips and maintaining internal clips lists;
- Drafting press releases, video scripts, and other written materials;
- Maintaining press lists;
- Media monitoring and research;
- Other communications projects as they arise.

Oakland, CA Internship
Key responsibilities of District Interns include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with answering constituent inquiries, front-office operations;
- Answering phones, recording constituent correspondences, and processing other incoming requests;
- Drafting memos;
- Beginning Constituent Casework support;
- Community and District engagements, including tabling and drafting government and constituent resources;

Selected candidates must not be working or interning in another Legislative or Federal department at the same time. The Summer 2026 Internship Program will run from June 8th to August 21st.
