Internships

Congresswoman Simon's office hosts internships in one of our offices (Washington D.C. or Oakland). Applicants are required to fill out the below for and include their cover letter and resume ready to upload at the end of this form. Submitting these documents is required.

Ideal candidates are organized and passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with an interest in public service and social justice. Applicants should be self-starters with excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. 

The applications for 2026 spring internships in Congresswoman Simon's Washington, D.C. AND Oakland, CA office are now open. Please see below for more information and note the varying application dates. 

Washington, D.C. Internship

Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (CA-12) seeks a paid part-time intern for her Washington, D.C. office for the Spring 2026 semester. 

Ideal candidates are organized and passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with an interest in public service and social justice. Applicants should be self-starters with excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. 

Key responsibilities of D.C. interns include but are not limited to: 

  • Assisting with front office operations 

  • Answering phones, recording constituent opinions, and processing other incoming requests 

  • Assisting the communications team with drafting social media posts, creating digital assets, and other written materials. 

  • Drafting memos and conducting legislative research or community outreach 

Applications are accepted from Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 30. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The internship will take place in-person during the Spring and is paid. Preference will be given to those with California ties.  To apply, please complete the application provided.

Oakland, CA Internship

Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (CA-12) seeks three (3) paid part-time interns for her Oakland District Office for the Spring 2026 Semester. Interns will work in-person, 12-hours per week. 

Ideal intern candidates are organized and passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with an interest in government, constituent services, and social justice. 

Key responsibilities of District Interns include,  but are not limited to: 

  • Assisting with answering constituent inquiries, front-office operations;
  • Answering phones, recording constituent correspondences, and processing other incoming requests;
  • Drafting memos;
  • Beginning Constituent Casework support;
  • Community and District engagements, including tabling and drafting government and constituent resources;

Applications are accepted from Wednesday, November 12 through Sunday, December 14. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Selected candidates must not be working or interning in another Legislative or Federal department at the same time. Preference will be given to those with ties to California's 12th District.
