Resources for U.S. Citizens Seeking Government Assistance to Evacuate Abroad

2. Residents should also enroll in STEP to get up-to-date safety and security information.
   1. STEP is a free service which allows U.S. citizens and nationals to enroll their trip abroad so the Department of State can accurately and quickly contact them in case of emergency. 
   2. Benefits of signing up for STEP include: real-time updates about health, weather, safety, and security in the country, allows the embassy or consulate to contact you, allows for planning ahead using information from the local U.S. embassy.
