OAKLAND, CA – Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) recently secured a $1,092,000 Community Project Funding (CPF) Grant for the East Bay Regional Park District to improve the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline. This federal funding will help enhance water quality in the San Leandro and San Francisco Bays and improve community access to the shoreline. Last Friday, she toured the project site and discussed the planned improvements.

OAKLAND, CA. – Today, Bay Area members of Congress celebrated an $8,807,888 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support local public transportation as the region prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The investment will ensure local transit agencies can meet increased demand during one of the largest global sporting events ever hosted in the United States.

OAKLAND, CA – Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) led 12 colleagues in calling for the withdrawal of a Department of Transportation (DOT) final rule that would eliminate regulations that provide essential civil rights protections and ensure organizations that receive federal transportation funding do not unintentionally discriminate against protected groups.

OAKLAND, CA – Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) recently announced a $1,031,000 Community Project Funding (CPF) Grant for Samuel Merritt’s (SMU) new Downtown Oakland campus. This funding will be used to purchase next-generation research equipment, ensuring students at SMU have the highest-quality learning experience and are equipped in the classroom to become the next generation of health professionals in the Bay Area. Congresswoman Simon presented this funding to SMU President Ching-Hua Wang at the grand opening of SMU’s new campus in January 2026.

Last week, Rep. Lateefah Simon called a conference inside Oakland’s 19th Street BART station to introduce a federal bill that could have big implications for transit safety. 

There, Simon, who represents Berkeley and other East Bay cities in Congress, announced that she had introduced the Rapid Intervention and Deterrence for Enhanced Rider Safety Act, or the RIDER Safety Act, which would allow transit agencies across the country to tap federal crime prevention funds to pay for “transit support specialists” rather than exclusively law enforcement officers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon’s (D-CA-12) fourth bill, the “Information Quality Assurance Act” (IQAA), passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 362 to 1. Congresswoman Simon and Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain’s (R-MI-09) bipartisan bill would require that the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) update guidance to improve the quality of information and evidence that federal agencies use to promulgate federal regulations.

MISSSEY is a survivor-led organization that is confronting human trafficking in Oakland, in Alameda County, and throughout California.
