Congresswoman Simon’s Vote on H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) voted against H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027 and released the following statement: 

“Today I voted against H.R. 6500, the continuing resolution which would continue to fund President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ deeply harmful and authoritarian agenda. 

“I thank House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro for her work to improve House Republicans’ initial continuing resolution, specifically for securing provisions to prohibit immigration enforcement funding and to temporarily block the proposed Office of Management and Budget rule that would empower Trump Administration officials to discriminate against Federal grant recipients based solely on their political viewpoints. 

“However, at a time when Republicans are carrying out an illegal war in Iran, lawlessly attacking immigrant communities, and undermining the democratic electoral process – I cannot vote to give a single cent to the Trump Administration. I will not keep the machinery moving at the expense of the dignity, justice, and people we were elected to serve.”
